We now have 8 conferences underway, 5 in action today, which means we will very quickly start to see people rack up more losses in the pool over the next few days.
I don't know if I can keep up this pace, we may have to have a guest Blogger once in a while, so if you are interested let me know. I volunteer Jenn as guest Blogger since she spends her lunches studying college basketball, while random guys try to help her with picks, but then they find out she knows WAY more about college basketball then they do!
We have had 0 losses so far today which is amazing, but we still have lots of games tonight that could result in losses!

Big South
- The Big South had 4 games today, each game put someones champion at risk!
- The early part of the conference tournaments is the best when you have a 1 seed, because you get to sit back and watch everyone's 3-10 seeds get picked off one by one
- Winthrop played Charleston Southern tough today, but in the end CSU pulled off a comfortable victory and the 3 of us with CSU can breath a sigh of relief
- Only 17% of us picked CSU to win this conference, even as a 1 seed, while 55.5% picked Gardner Webb, a 2 seed, so I'll assume everyone is a sucker for a bulldog in a red sweater
- Gardner-Webb ended up demolishing the Campbell Camels, so we will have no teams named "Camels" in the tournament for yet another year
- Virginia Military had a 20 point lead on Longwood late in the second, ended up blowing that lead, but then won fairly easily int he last 2 minutes of the game
- Only Ron picked Virginia Military (patriotic) in our pool, but they are a 2 seed so not a threat for bonus points if they ultimately win the Big South conference
- Liberty/High Point is setting up to be a exciting finish
Atlantic Sun
- The Stetson Hats, yes that is the schools mascot, a hat, easily destroyed Eastern Tennessee this afternoon
- Shockingly, 2 people in out pool have Stetson, which if they win would equal bonus points
- Also shockingly, Stetson is a 3 seed, so they must not be that bad in terms of the conference
- USC Upstate/Jacksonville is still in progress - We do have a USC Upstate upset pick in our pool, so this is one to watch
Missouri Valley Conference (Arch Madness)
- I have been ripping on Tina a lot in this Blog, but she has really been putting herself out there so it's not my fault
- For Tina, to clarify, the MVC tournament is called Arch Madness because it takes place in St. Louis, home of the Gateway Arch, not because it is sponsored by McDonald's or that I forgot to include the M before Arch
- According to Forbes.com...
- Drake destroyed Bradley, and although it didn't impact our pool, Amanda lost her favorite player in the tournament...
- I love having all these regional comcast channels so I can watch the Drake/Bradley press conference and commercials for the Gateway Arch.
- Commercials in St. Louis really make me question their priorities, take a look at this commercial for example...this dude is a High School QB from the 60's
- Another thing that makes this conference so fun is that John Rooney announces these games!!!
- SIU and Missouri State are in progress, we do have someone that is hoping to ride 10 seed SIU to a pool victory
Ohio Valley Conference
- Tennessee State beat Morehead State, didn't have any impact on our pool, and not a very exciting game
- Currently, Eastern Kentucky is handling SEMO, but I will have that result updated later tonight as we have a handful of people with Eastern Kentucky as the OVC Champion
West Coast Conference
- These games are on way too late in the evening, I'll have to figure out what to do about this in the Blog
- As of posting this Blog, Loyola Marymount/S.F. is too close to call, we do have someone that picked Loyola Marymount to go all the way so this game does impact the pool
- Pepperdine/San Diego starts at 12:30 AM CT so that is kind of bullshit
The link below will be very helpful to save in your favorites as it will show the specific dates of each conferences tournament.
It nicely outlines when each conference starts, which dates they play, and if the conferences is in the finals, semi-finals, quarter-finals, etc. I will look at having this incorporated into the pool spreadsheet for 2014 as a enhancement.
